Covington Lions install officers, honor members

COVINGTON -- The Covington Lions Club recently held their annual meeting to install new officers and honor members who excelled as Lions during the past year.

Held at the FFA Camp, the special guest for the evening was District Gov. Ed Hashbarger, who installed new officers.

Highlights of the evening included a year-end review by Immediate Past President Earl Stallworth who presented the club with three District-level awards as well as club certificates. Two plaques went to Earl Stallworth, two went to Doreen Stallworth and two went to Jimmy Williams.

The Lion of the Year Award was given to Doreen Stallworth and the Melvin Jones Fellow award was presented to Joe Courchaine. Earl Stallworth was awarded an Appreciation plaque for a job well done as president of the club for 2012-2013.

New officers for the 2013-2014 year are: Richard Brown, president; Ed Johnson, first vice president; Jeff Sheffield, second vice president; Joe Courchaine, third vice president; Doreen Stallworth, secretary; Jimmy Williams, treasurer; Pat Free, membership chairperson; Debbie Cope, membership vice chair; Ronnie Umphrey, membership member; Lee Mayfield, tail twister; Missy Braden, Lion tamer; Charles Berry, Debbie Cope, two-year directors; and Charlotte Lundsford and Minnie Henderson, one-year directors.

Lions are the largest community service-oriented organization in the world with over 46,000 clubs and 1.3 million members. They work to raise funds for the visually impaired, to eradicate measles and victims of Diabetes, River Blindness and natural disasters.
