Austin selected for Eastern League All-Star team

Tyler Austin is once again a minor league all-star. Austin was one of four players from the Trenton Thunder, a Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, to be named to the Eastern League All-Star team, the Thunder announced Thursday.

It is the second All-Star selection for Austin, a Heritage graduate and 13th-round draft pick in 2010. The 21-year-old was named to the South Atlantic League All-Star team in 2012.

Right-handed Tommy Kahnle and outfielder Ramon Flores were already All-Star selections, then Austin and left-handed pitcher Nik Turley were chosen via fan voting. At least one position player and one pitcher from each Eastern League team were selected by fans through online and stadium balloting, and the remaining selections were made through voting by league media, managers and officials.

Austin was hitting .273 (73-for-267) with 38 RBIs and a .365 on-base percentage in 69 games through June 26. During a five-game hitting streak, the Conyers native is 8-for-21 (.381), including his third three-hit game of the month in a loss to Erie June 24.

The Eastern League All-Star Game will be played on July 10 at New Britain Stadium in New Britain, Conn.
