35 players on Citizen's all-area baseball team

It was another spring full of outstanding baseball in Rockdale and Newton counties and 35 players -- 15 on the first team and 15 on the second team -- were rewarded with spots on the Citizen's all-area teams.

FIRST TEAM

-- Jake Jones, senior catcher/pitcher, Alcovy. Dominant on the mound (6-2, 0.83 ERA, 107 strikeouts) and at the plate (.419 average, .505 on-base percentage).

-- Tristan Payne, first baseman/outfielder, Alcovy. Led team in batting average (.434) and on-base percentage (.517).

-- Dalton Reagin, junior pitcher/outfielder, Alcovy. Went 6-3 with a 3.11 ERA on the mound and at the plate got on base at a .505 clip.

-- Drew Buckhault, junior outfielder/catcher, Eastside. Huge year in batting average (.481) and on-base percentage (.571) and had a team-high 33 RBIs while being named all-Region 8-AAAA.

-- Peyton Pallay, junior pitcher, Eastside. Went 10-1 with a 1.78 ERA and had a .421 on-base percentage in being named to the all-Region 8-AAAA team.

-- Hunter Ballard, sophomore outfielder/catcher, Eastside. All-Region 8-AAAA member hit .351 with a .440 on-base percentage.

-- Musashi Briem, senior third baseman, Eastside. All-Region 8-AAAA honoree had a .476 on-base percentage and 31 RBIs in helping the Eagles reach the Class AAAA state playoffs.

-- Zach Bailey, senior outfielder, Salem. Hit .500 with 26 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. Signed with Gordon College.

-- Tyler Page, junior first baseman, Rockdale. Hit team-high .460 with 15 RBIs and had several effective starts on the mound for the Bulldogs.

-- Austin Jewell, senior infielder/catcher, Rockdale. Hit .450 with 16 RBIs.

-- Allen Bowen, junior shortstop/outfielder, Newton. Hit .434 with a .483 on-base percentage.

-- Shawn Guckenberger, junior designated hitter/pitcher, Newton. Led team in on-base percentage (.526) and RBIs (28) and added a .387 average.

-- Anthony Williams, sophomore catcher, Heritage. Won team batting title at .342, while adding a .484 on-base percentage in being named second team all-Region 8-AAAAA.

-- Domenic Bazzani, junior first baseman/pitcher, Heritage. Second team all-Region 8-AAAAA honoree a .407 on-base percentage with a team-high 25 RBIs.

-- Ryan Sutton, junior outfielder/pitcher, Heritage. Second team all-Region 8-AAAAA had a .463 on-base percentage with a .315 batting average.

SECOND TEAM

-- Daniel Garrett, senior pitcher, Eastside. All-Region 8-AAAA member went 8-3 with 50 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched.

-- Nick Womack, freshman infielder, Eastside. Hit. 417 with a .449 on-base percentage.

-- Malachi Eskin, junior shortstop/pitcher, Rockdale. Hit .360 with 18 RBIs

-- Terrell McLaughlin, junior outfielder, Rockdale. Hit .343 with 17 RBIs.

-- M.J. Boykin, junior infielder/outfielder, Newton. Compiled a .408 on-base percentage and drove in 15 runs for the Rams.

-- Josh Beddington, senior catcher, Alcovy. Hit .342 with a .372 on-base percentage.

-- Blake Shope, freshman shortstop, Alcovy. Compiled a .392 on-base percentage.

-- Nathan Purcell, infielder/catcher, Alcovy. Hit .353 with a .414 on-base percentage.

-- Reed Hill, senior designated hitter, Salem. Hit .417 despite missing three weeks with injury. Second team all-Region 8-AAAAA.

-- Garrett Needham, senior first baseman, Salem. Hit .379 with 18 RBIs in being named second team all-Region 8-AAAAA.

-- Jordan Scott, sophomore infielder, Salem. Hit .362 with 18 stolen bases in being named second team all-Region 8-AAAAA.

-- Tiwuan Head, junior utility, Salem. Hit .370 with 18 RBIs for the Seminoles.

-- Jason Howell, sophomore pitcher, Salem. Went 4-0 with a 2.07 ERA.

-- Ryan Read, junior pitcher, Salem. Had a 2.15 ERA and five saves.

-- Matt Studdard, freshman pitcher, Heritage. Emerged as a front-end starter and compiled a 3.03 ERA in 44 innings pitched.
