IDs of masked robbers released

COVINGTON -- The identities of two masked men charged with armed robbery of S&S Package Store have been released by police.

Covington C.I.D. units arrested Girvin Jackson IV, 18, of 6156 Water Oak Circle, Covington and Eric Lydvonn, 17, of 6194 Green Acres Drive, Covington, early Thursday morning. Both are charged with armed robbery and are being held at the Newton County Detention Center.

Jackson was identified as the perpetrator wearing a "SpongeBob" mask and Lydvonn was identified as the person wearing the Iron Man mask during the robbery. The masks and the handgun used during the robbery were recovered.

"Thanks to the hard work of Det. (Jeff) Bruno, the entire C.I.D., and our patrol team, these two dangerous individuals are off the street," said Capt. Ken Malcom.

At 5:48 p.m. Monday two masked men wearing all black clothing entered S&S Package Store at 6138 Monticello St. and placed a white plastic bag on the counter, according to a police report. The Iron Man masked suspect pointed a handgun at the clerk, who opened the cash register drawer, according to the report, and the two suspects grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash. The incident was captured on video surveillance.

The suspects fled on foot toward a wooded area in a southwest direction that would have taken them towards Green Acres Drive, according to police.
