Masked robbers arrested by CPD

COVINGTON - Covington police have arrested the two masked men who allegedly robbed S&S Package Store Monday.

"We developed a lead and we were able to identify the two suspects and we picked them up early this morning," said CPD Capt. Ken Malcom Thursday afternoon. "We actually completed the investigation. We recovered the handgun used in the robbery and the masks and we do have the two in custody."

Police have not yet released the men's identities or charges filed against them.

The men were arrested at a residence, Malcom said, adding "both individuals confessed."

The men were originally reported to have been wearing an Iron Man and an Angry Birds mask during the robbery. Malcom said one was actually wearing a Spongebob mask.

At 5:48 p.m. Monday two masked men wearing all black clothing entered S&S Package Store at 6138 Monticello St. and placed a white plastic bag on the counter, according to a police report. The Iron Man masked suspect pointed a handgun at the clerk, who opened the cash register drawer, according to the report, and the two suspects grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash. The incident was captured on video surveillance.

The suspects fled on foot towards a wooded area in a southwest direction that would have taken them towards Green Acres Drive, according to police.

Police offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of the alleged robbers.
