COVINGTON -- A car show and county employee appreciation event that was canceled in May due to bad weather has been rescheduled for Sunday.
The events, hosted by Commissioner Lanier Sims, will take place from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. in downtown Covington.
The car show will feature about 150 vehicles from all over the state. County employees who have worked with the county for 15 years or more will be recognized and receive small gifts at 2 p.m. Employees will also get to vote on their pick of the car show.
"As a commissioner and as a citizen my whole life, I want to show my appreciation to the dedicated employees of the county," Sims previously told the Citizen.
Local companies have donated funds to purchase awards and gifts.
"I thought this would be a great opportunity to show the county employees how much I appreciate them. We have a good amount, actually 89 employees, that have been with the county 15-plus years," he said.
There will also be music and downtown restaurants and some merchants will be open. Sims described it as "just a day of thanks and a day of fun for county employees."
