It's been a good summer on the mound so far for Covington native Brad Taylor. Playing for the Brookhaven Bucks of the Sun Belt college wood bat league, Taylor has appeared in two games and not allowed an earned run.
The right-hander and rising sophomore at Georgia Perimeter College has pitched five innings and allowed four hits while striking out three. Taylor's efforts have helped the pitching staff compile a 3.39 ERA as Brookhaven is 4-4 and in first place in the East Division.
Brookhaven played Berkeley Lake Wednesday and will play the OTC Bearcats tonight at 7:15 p.m. at Strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove.
Rockdale graduate Kevin Dawkins has struggled through the early stages of his first summer with the Bearcats. Dawkins, a rising senior who just completed his first season at Point University in West Point, is hitting just .133 (2-for-15) in six games, though the first baseman is tied with teammate Eddie Payton for the team-high in walks with four.
OTC, off to a 1-6 start in the West Division, had a pair of games rained out this week and the game against Brookhaven will be the team's first game action since a 9-1 loss to the Home Plate Chukars on June 15.
