BERKELEY LAKE — Though his team has had an up and down start to its summer season, Cameron Gibson hasn't skipped a beat at the plate. The Salem graduate who just finished his first season at Chipola Junior College (Marianna, Florida) is leading the Berkeley Lake Tides of the Sun Belt college wood bat league in hitting. Gibson, who spent his freshman season in 2012 at Georgia Tech then had a big season for Chipola this past spring, is hitting .643 (9-for-14) with five RBIs and a team-high six stolen bases in four games played.
Gibson, a center fielder, recently went 4-for-4 from the lead off spot in a loss to the Douglasville Bulls.
Covington native Spencer Earle, who just completed his sophomore season at Anderson University (Anderson, South Carolina), is 1-0 with a 1.03 ERA and has seven strike outs in 8 innings pitched in three games (two starts) for Berkeley Lake.
Berkeley Lake, 3-4 on the young season, have an upcoming home-and-home series with the Brookhaven Bucks. The Tides played a road game Tuesday and host the Bucks tonight at Georgia Gwinnett College at 7:15 p.m.
