Covington man wins $3M with lottery ticket

COVINGTON -- A Covington man is the latest big winner in the Georgia Lottery.

Dung Tran claimed his prize of $3 million Tuesday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

Tran was playing the instant game 100X The Money when he struck it rich, according to a press release from the Georgia Lottery.

His ticket was purchased at F S Food Mart, located at 10946 U.S. Highway 278, East.

Gulshan Somani, whose husband Feroz Somani owns the convenience store, said they had sold tickets winning from $1,000 to $10,000 before, but never as high as $3 million. Somani said she was not sure if she knew Tran or not as she recognizes customers by their face and not their name.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
