Rockdale dominates all-area tennis team

The Rockdale tennis program had another phenomenal season, and as a result, the Citizen's All-Area Team is packed with Bulldogs.

The Conyers school, which had each of its teams win region titles for the first time and play in the second round of the state tournament for the first time together, had 13 players named to first teams and 15 total players secured all-area spots.

GIRLS

First team

-- Summer Walker, junior, Rockdale. Unanimous choice for player of the year in Region 2-AAAAAA and went 6-0 against league foes.

-- Ciara Chesser, senior, Rockdale. No. 2 singles player went 7-0 against Region 2-AAAAAA.

-- Aliyah Byrd, junior, Rockdale. Bulldogs' No. 3 singles player won seven of eight matches against region foes.

-- Abby Bradford (junior) and Destiny Commodore (sophomore), Rockdale. Playing No. 1 doubles, the duo went 5-0 in the regular season and picked up a straight set victory in the opening round of the state tournament against Douglas County.

-- Devon McLaurin (senior) and Fran Murry (junior), Heritage. Went 8-3 in Region 8-AAAAA and secured a first round state tournament victory over Woodland (Cartersville).

Second team

-- Brishanti Weaver, junior, Newton. Compiled an 8-4 overall record and 5-2 mark against Region 2-AAAAAA competition.

-- Brandie Weathersby (senior) and Trista Twiford (junior), Alcovy. Had an 8-4 overall record in helping the Tigers reach the Class AAAAAA state tournament.

-- Sydney Norton (sophomore) and Kyia Havens (senior), Rockdale. Went 5-1 against Region 2-AAAAAA.

-- Logan Bouchillon, freshman, Heritage. Went 8-3 in her first year of varsity competition.

-- Bianca Brown, sophomore, Heritage. No. 1 singles player helped the Patriots reach the second round of the Class AAAAA state tournament.

-- Alexis Smith, junior, Heritage. No. 2 singles player had huge, come-from-behind win to seal first round victory over Woodland.

BOYS

First team

-- Patrick Sanders, junior, Rockdale. Unanimous choice for player of the year in Region 2-AAAAAA and went 7-0 against league foes.

-- Trey Hull, sophomore, Rockdale. Went 7-0 against region foes as the Bulldogs' No. 2 singles player.

-- Logan Hull, freshman, Rockdale. Unbeaten at 8-0 against Region 2-AAAAAA at No. 3 singles.

-- Bruce Mitchell (junior) and Abenet Addisu (junior), Rockdale. Went unbeaten at 5-0 against Region 2-AAAAAA in earning first-team all-region honors.

-- Collin Shamley (senior), Chris DaSilva (senior) and Cameron Dabro (junior), Rockdale. All three played a part in helping the Rockdale doubles teams go undefeated in Region 2-AAAAAA play and pick up a state tournament win against Douglas County.

-- Jay Vinson, junior, Heritage. Patriots' No. 1 singles player went 7-2 against Region 8-AAAAA competition.

Second team

-- Clayton Anderson, junior, Alcovy. Tigers' No. 2 singles player went 5-1 against region foes and 8-3 overall.

-- Stefen Kirk (junior) and Holden Miller (sophomore), Alcovy. Went 5-2 against Region 2-AAAAAA in earning second-team all-region honors.

-- Kevin Blum (junior) and Ronnie Flow (junior), Heritage. Duo went 7-2 against Region 8-AAAAA competition.
