Covington teen faces child molestation charges involving 3 young victims

COVINGTON — A teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with the molestation of three young Newton County boys, ages 7, 9 and 9.

Zane Michael Stodghill, 17, of 434 Varner St. is being held at the Newton County Detention Center without bond. He faces charges of child molestation; aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and sodomy.

According to Newton County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Deputy Cortney Morrison, the three youngsters, who are related but are not siblings, made an outcry to a caregiver, saying that they had been sexually assaulted.

“The caregiver immediately notified the parents and the parents took them to the hospital and notified the Sheriff’s Office,” Morrison said. “Once the initial report was created, a forensic interview was set up and all three victims made a disclosure that they were being sexually assaulted by Stodghill. Investigators then had enough probable cause to make the arrest.”

Morrison said the assaults had taken place between November of 2012 through the middle of July.

“It happened on several different occasions,” she said, adding that the suspect was known to the families of the victims and had frequent contact with them.
