Shasta and Lucy are looking for new homes

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

• Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

• Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

• Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

• Which pet is right for my home and my family?

Shasta is having a bit of a bad hair day, but you wouldn’t believe how great she’d clean up with just one trip to the grooomer. She’s about 2 years old and is a little ShihTzu, weighing only 15 pounds. A very sweet little girl, she’s very timid and would do best with families with older children or all adults. She’s had some shots and been wormed. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.

This gal just looks tough. She’s a quiet, gentle dog who would make a great companion or family pet. She’s believed to be a Mastiff-mix and is about 3 years old. Workers at the shelter have named her Lucy. She was found running loose with no home in sight and was brought to the animal shelter. She’s up-to-date on shots and would love a spot by your fireplace. She can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403.
