CONYERS – The Georgia State Patrol, Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and Rockdale Fire Rescue responded to an accident and auto fire on Interstate 20 westbound early Monday morning.
According to Tracey Watson, public information officer with the state Department of Public Safety, a 38-year-old Social Circle woman was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck westbound just before 6 a.m. when the tread came off the left rear tire. Watson said the driver oversteered the vehicle, which ran off the road, overturned and caught fire.
RCSO Investigator Michael Camp said deputies responded to the scene and were able to pull the driver from the burning vehicle.
Watson said the victim was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with minor injuries.
Fire Rescue Lt. Chris Kozikowski said Engine 7, Company 8, a battalion chief and an ambulance responded to the accident. He said the fire was quickly extinguished, and the truck was a total loss.
