Missy and Scruffy are looking for new homes

This domestic shorthair cat looks like she ran into a paintbrush full of black paint with her unusual facial markings. She’s been named Missy and is spayed and litter box trained. Her front feet have been declawed so she is definitely an inside cat and cannot be allowed to run free at all. She’s believed to be about 5 years old and is ready to be welcomed into a new home. She can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.

This redhead is looking for a new home. A Terrier-mix, he’s called Scuffy for obvious reasons. He is really just a baby at only 4 months old. He was found running loose and needs a new home. He’d make an ideal family pet and is very sweet and playful. He gets along well with other dogs at the shelter. He’ll probably weigh between 35 and 40 pounds as an adult and would like to grow up with you. He’s up-to-date on shots and worming. He can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403.

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

• Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

• Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

• Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

• Which pet is right for my home and my family?
