CONYERS — A second suspect in a recent gas station armed robbery spree across metro Atlanta is behind bars after being arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force last week.
Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Michael Camp said the second suspect, identified as Roderick Hamilton, 41, of Lawrenceville, was arrested on Thursday night, July 11, at a residence in Atlanta. Camp said he is suspected of being the getaway driver in most, if not all, of the armed robberies.
Hamilton’s arrest came one day after the first suspect was arrested. Authorities said Lewis Bernard Flagg, 33, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals at a house in Decatur on July 10. Flagg has been linked to at least 11 other gas station armed robberies in the metro area.
The two suspects came to the attention of Rockdale authorities following a June 16 armed robbery at the BP gas station at 2992 Ga. Highway 155 in south Rockdale County. Flagg and Hamilton are each charged with armed robbery in Rockdale County.
Flagg continues to be held at the Rockdale County Jail and faces charges in at least six other jurisdictions. Thornton is being held in the Gwinnett Detention Center and also faces charges in other jurisdictions.
Camp said a federal indictment for the armed robberies is also a possibility being explored for both Flagg and Thornton. That decision is expected to be made in the near future, he said.
