SOCIAL CIRCLE — The Social Circle Department of Public Safety has linked a Decatur man to the armed robbery of a convenience store on July 4, according to Chief of Police Terry Sosebee. He is suspected in at least 13 similar crimes in the Atlanta area, including an armed robbery in Rockdale County which occurred on June 16.
Warrants were obtained by the Social Circle DPS Tuesday for Lewis Bernard Flagg Jr., 33, on charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault and commission of a crime by a convicted felon through use of a firearm.
Sosebee said Flagg is believed to have held up the Shell Food Store at 1299 N. Cherokee Road around 11:50 a.m. on Independence Day. The robbery was captured on video surveillance tape which helped linked Flagg to the crime, Sosebee said.
“The case is still under investigation. He left the store on foot and that is part of what’s still under investigation,” he said.
Flagg is already incarcerated in the Rockdale County Jail facing charges in connection with the armed robbery of the BP station at 2992 Ga. Highway 155, after which he also was observed to leave the scene on foot.
Flagg was arrested on July 10 at his Decatur residence by the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and transported to the Rockdale Jail.
