COVINGTON — Have a talent you’d like to share with the community and maybe even be discovered by the entertainment industry? Here’s your chance. The Newton County Republican Party is sponsoring Covington’s Got Talent, a talent contest open to both Newton and Rockdale to residents ages 8 and up.
Covington’s Got Talent is inviting those with a unique skill to share — singers, dancers, magicians, comedians — to audition for the performance.
Auditions will be held on July 19 and 26, starting at 6 p.m., at Plain Nuts Catering off the Square in Covington. Those interested can find the audition form and complete rules and regulations at www.newtongop.org.
The performances of Covington’s Got Talent take place during two shows, at 2 and 4:30 p.m., on Aug. 17 at Peachtree Academy Auditorium, 1401 U.S. Highway 278 in Covington. Admission to the show is $5 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.
The show will be an adjudicated event utilizing three professional judges, who will weigh in with 60 percent of the feedback for a participant. Audience members will also participate in the judging, contributing 40 percent of the decision on a person’s talent.
Newton GOP Vice-Chair and talent show coordinator Dedee Ingram said talent scouts from the entertainment industry will also be on hand to view the show’s participants. Serving as judges for the event will be representatives from Conquer Entertainment in Decatur, Briarwood Entertainment in Atlanta and the music department at Shorter University.
Ingram said the event is a fundraiser for the Newton GOP.
“We are trying to show the Covington and Rockdale areas that we are community-oriented,” said Ingram, who added that the she’s promoted the event in schools, churches, music stores and band camp.
