“When is the city going to pave the hole that runs all the way across Pace Street at the red light at the tax office?”

“I had an interesting conversation Saturday at the Independence Celebration at the Square with a very nice man who believes despite years of information debunking that the Obamas had to ‘surrender’ their licenses to practice law due to unethical practices. Here is a quote from Fact Check: ‘Q: Did Barack and Michelle Obama “surrender” their law licenses to avoid ethics charges? A: No. A court official confirms that no public disciplinary proceeding has ever been brought against either of them, contrary to a false Internet rumor. By voluntarily inactivating their licenses, they avoid a requirement to take continuing education classes and pay hundreds of dollars in annual fees. Both could practice law again if they chose to do so.’ Please people, get informed so you can vote accordingly. Don’t believe any email rumors and check for yourself to disprove what you hear on Faux News."

"Republicans love Socialism and obviously don’t believe in personal responsibility or they would stop supporting giveaways of federal land to timber companies, range land to large ranches, water to large irrigators, mines to large mining corporations, and airwaves to large broadcasters. These are our nation’s biggest welfare payments. (When you walk around in the U.S. Capitol, you see some lobbyists, but guess what? None of the lobbyists are hired by poor urban mothers on welfare or the middle-class taxpayer. They’re hired by rich fat cats on multimillion dollar welfare.)"

“I find it an outrage that the school board chair suggests things like hiring an additional SRO to handled unruly bus students when we are telling them to cut money. I think it is awful that board members like Turner and Johnson refuse to explain why they opposed the new superintendent by voting against her. I find it wasteful to use the old Newton High when your old SPLOST said you were replacing it with a school that has 700 empty seats — seats 2,500 and there are only 1,800. Did E-SPLOST lie long ago to us? Replace means do away with one and use another. The Newton BOE is wasteful and like the BOC is not looking out for taxpayers. These special programs like theme school should be done away with not used as a push to take over buildings. Where do your board member children go to school for the ones who have school age children? One hundred percent of them go to the theme school. Nuff said. I am shocked at the Newton College & Career Academy video — Google ‘NCCA Harlem Shake.’ Students are jumping on taxpayer-funded new cafeteria tables and I spotted the principal in the video looking on in approval from what I saw. Shameful way to operate a new building. Do you even need it?”

This is how SPLOST is abused every time. The New Newton county high school was put in ESPLOST as a replacement high school not an additional school. Now if they keep anything in the old one the property owners of Newton County will have to pay for the maintenance and operation of it and the new high school because SPLOST can't by law be used for that. This is why the school millage is maxed out in Newton County. We have these schools that were replaced that we are still having to maintain. Some of these board members don't care as long as the property owners pay. Very poorly managed school system running by the seat of it's pants with little to no planning ahead.

That is the same school board chair who said earlier in the year that a million dollars is not a lot of money. That is who is heading up your school board. Money does not mean a thing. Spend 10K plus to find a superintendent who was sitting on the 2nd floor of the Clamp Bldg all a long and spend money on SROs for out of control kids and hey let's buy a few nurses while we are at it and doesn't someone work for the Arts Assn who is pushing to keep the auditorium for the same association?

Why are we paying over 100K to drive around bad kids on a bus? CUT OUT WASTEFUL OMBUDSMAN BUSES.

I fully support the BOC rollback rate. We will only have the same money that we had last year with this rate. Most, if not all, are paying lower property taxes than 5 years ago due to the drop in property values. My neighborhood is at a level of about 1/3 of the property tax when the homes were built. If the naysayers know where there is more money or where the budget could be cut further, without furloughs that are so detremental, they should be telling us all rather than complaining. Be part of the solution.
