Three Covington juveniles face rape charges

COVINGTON — The Covington Police Department has arrested several juvenile offenders in connection with two separate incidents of rape.

According to CPD Public Information Officer Capt. Ken Malcom, the first incident occurred on about 7 p.m. July 1 in the area of Magnolia Heights.

Officers were called by the mother of a 13-year-old girl who said another juvenile came to her and told her that her daughter was being assaulted. The mother went to a wooded area near her apartment building and found two teens assaulting the girl.

“The mother was able to fight off one of the juvenile males and both ran away,” Malcom said. “When CPD detectives arrived and began their investigation, they were able to quickly identify the two male juveniles (each 16 years of age) and place them in juvenile custody.”

Both were charged with rape, aggravated child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes and are being held in a youth detention facility.

A second rape was reported on July 4 around 10:45 p.m. in the area of Green Acres Drive.

“The Covington Police responded to a complaint by an 18-year-old victim who stated that an unknown male raped her behind a vacant residence on Green Acres Drive,” Malcom said. “Detectives also quickly identified a 14-year-old male as the offender in this incident and have charged the juvenile with rape.”

He also is being held in a youth detention facility.
