CONYERS -- American Legion Post 77 has been named Outstanding Post for 2012-2013 for the state of Georgia.
"This is the first time since 2000 that we've won it," said Post Commander Zeste C. Debro. "The last couple of years we were runner-up in our division, but this year we brought home the big one."
Debro said the award takes into consideration all the programs offered by the post, including such things as children and youth programs, support to the community, their baseball team, the Boys and Girls State program, donation of stuffed animals to the disabled and more.
"We participate in all the programs and are graded during the year," Debro said.
There are 634 members of Post 77, 100 Auxiliary members and approximately 60 members of The Sons of the American Legion whose participation in the programs contributed to winning the award.
Debro said the post will be celebrating the nation's birthday as well as earning the title of the Outstanding Post for the state on July 4th with a free barbecue.
"Well begin about 10 a.m. and we want the public to come out and celebrate with us," Debro said.
American Legion Post 77 is located at 674 Legion Road.
