Parents can tour theme school next month

COVINGTON — Newton County parents interested in learning more about the parent-involvement theme school can take a tour next month.

The Newton County Theme School at Ficquett, which is located at 2207 Williams St. in Covington, will conduct tours at 9 and 11 a.m. Feb. 6, 8, 11 and 13.

Parents are asked to call ahead to reserve a time. The number is 770-784-2959.

Each tour will last about 30 minutes. The tour will give parents the opportunity to see the layout of the school and take a peek into classrooms to briefly observe classroom instruction, according to the school.

It will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

The school first opened in 2009 at the Fairview Elementary School site, and then moved to its current site, which used to be Ficquett Elementary School.

New student applications will be accepted from Feb. 4 through 15.

To be admitted, some students are required to have certain academic standards, and parents are required to volunteer at least 20 hours per household per year.
