COVINGTON — Professional wrestling stars from all over the Southeast will be coming to the Covington National Guard Armory on Saturday to do battle.
The event is a celebration of the retirement of Steve “The Brawler” Lawler, who has held regional titles throughout the Southeast during his 30-year career and is no stranger to this area, having wrestled numerous times in Covington and Porterdale. Lawler will retire in mid-February and this will be his last match in Covington.
The event, which starts at 8 p.m., with doors to open at 7 p.m., will feature wrestlers from Georgia, Florida and Tennessee, including the Jailhouse Rocker, Bam Bam, The Movement, Jamie Holmes, Rugged Richie Dye, The Bonecrushers, Lobo and others.
This is the debut event of New South Championship Wrestling, and owner Lee Brock said he hopes to host more events in the future. His goal is to eventually use proceeds from matches to benefit various organizations, such as youth sports leagues.
“Covington has been a staple for professional wrestling for well over 30 years,” he said of why he and his friends chose to host the event here.
The event is family-friendly, Brock said, with no alcohol permitted and no foul language. Tickets are $5 for kids ages 6 to 12 and $10 for adults. Children under the age of 5 are free with adult admission.
