COVINGTON — Two people attending an adult birthday party at a home in the Silos complex off Brown Bridge Road were shot around 2 a.m. Sunday morning when more than 30 rounds were fired into the home where the party was taking place, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
Public Information Officer Deputy Cortney Morrison said the incident occurred at 355 Emerson Trail in the Legends of Ellington subdivision.
A woman guest sustained a wound to her leg and the male security guard hired for the party was shot in the arm. Both were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Morrison said.
Investigators are working around the clock and have learned that apparently "more than one" person crashed the party, although there seemed to be no problem with that at the time, Morrison said. However, some guests have come forward to say there was a verbal altercation between the uninvited party-goers and the invited guests that escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
"We have not identified these subjects yet, but we are working diligently to do that," Morrison said. "Evidence was collected at the scene and we are working very hard to go through the evidence and see what develops from it."
Morrison said bullets from the incident also struck vehicles in the driveway and some went into the house across the street.
Morrison said the casings discovered indicate different caliber weapons were used.
Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call the NCSO at 678-625-1400 and ask to speak to an investigator or go to their website at www.newtonsheriffga.gov.

One more reason why no one who wants a safe area would choose to live in Western Newton County, I can only assume what the demographics was for this party since it was held in the silos, The county should pass a law where if your party is more than 10 people you should have to rent a banquet center or some building where a party would be better held than in a residential area.

Your idea for a law is horrible! I see you are one of those who don't mind trampling on the rights of others. I frequently have gatherings of more than 10 people. If you like more laws governing property rights, then you would probably be happier in a communist country!!

Let's see 2 shootings in less than a month. I lived 40 years next door to what today is the Silos and we never had any shootings. Anyone who thinks the Silos subdivision is not a ghetto/war zone should pull their head out of the sand.

Guess they should have paved those streets and this wouldn't have happened. Guess this makes it true..paved streets cut down on crime.

It really wasn't even necessary for the Citizen to post the address or the name of the subdivision where this happened, we all pretty much knew where this occurred as soon as "party" and "shooting" were mentioned.
Thinking about the beautiful green rolling grassy fields that used stretch out behind those white silos just makes me want to cry.

@Frustrated, we need these roads paved so the law and ambulances can get up them better and faster to chase these thugs.

That is what happens when you rezone an area to accommodate retarded and racist populous for the benefit of some greedy landowners and developers. And this for just a few votes, excuse me to enrich their own pockets. You will get the undereducated garbage with it.

People are now hiring security guards for house parties? Wow. I will gladly pay a tax or contribute to the fund for that Sheriff's Office that is set to open. I won't go anywhere near that area or Salem Road/Kirkland Rd. Area ever since I got cased by two thugs inside Kroger. I grabbed my child and left a full cart in the aisle, I was so afraid. It really is a shame what this county has become.
