LAWRENCEVILLE — A cold front expected to move through north Georgia on Friday is forecasted to bring freezing rain to Gwinnett.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City on Thursday afternoon issued a freezing rain advisory for all of metro Atlanta from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. The advisory said the cold front will bring cold air that is wedged along the North Georgia mountains, and “will result in precipitation falling as freezing rain and sleet.”
Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected along a line north of Franklin, Griffin, Eatonton and Crawfordville.
The ice will cause roadways and sidewalks to become slippery, and travel over bridges and overpasses could be dangerous, the advisory said. Winds will be 5 m.p.h. to 10 m.p.h. with gusts up to 20 m.p.h. Temperatures will be about 30 degrees in the morning, and around 40 by the afternoon.
