The Newton County Sheriff's Office provides School Resource Officers to each high school and middle school in Newton County. The following is a list of reports filed by these officers that have been received this week by the Newton Citizen:
ALCOVY HIGH SCHOOL
-- A teacher notified the school resource officer around 11:51 a.m. on Jan. 16 that a cell phone valued at $325 was taken from her belongings.
-- Two female Alcovy High School students were involved in a physical altercation around 2:25 p.m. on Jan. 16. No injuries were reported.
-- The school resource officer was called to the Alcovy principal's office around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 23 after a student was found to be in possession of a pocket knife. The student was charged with possession of a a weapon within a school safety zone.
EASTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL
A female student advised the school resource officer on Jan. 22 that someone had taken her iPod after she put her books down on the floor in the hallway to go speak to a friend.
NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL
A teacher called the school resource officer to help her and an administrator get a Reach program student under control on Jan. 16 around 3 p.m. The student was sent home with his mother/caregiver. The teacher and administrator declined medical attention.
