Tampa, FL - Tyler Austin has been invited to his first spring training at the professional level. The former Heritage stand out told MILB.com he will be invited to the New York Yankees’ spring camp next month in Tampa.
Austin was a 13th-round selection (415th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and MLB.com ranks the outfielder as the Yankees’ No. 3 prospect heading into the 2013 season.
“Very excited about it, it’s something I've dreamed of my entire life,” Austin told MILB.com. “Especially to be with the Yankees and get this opportunity and go out and play with those guys. It’s going to be an unbelievable experience that I'll never forget.”
Austin, 21, hit .322 with 17 home runs, 80 RBIs and a .400 on-base percentage in 2012, while moving up three minor league levels.
The Yankees begin spring camp February 12.
