Bid on a mare, or adopt a dog as pets this week

This mighty Chihuahua-mix has been dubbed Sampson and he wants to make a strong impression on somebody out there who would be willing to give him a new home. He's between 1 and 2 years old and weighs between 12 and 15 pounds. He's a real heart-stealer and is up-to-date on his shots. He can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403.

This lovely lady named Carrot is up for grabs at the Newton County Animal Shelter. A mare, believed to be approximately 4 years old, she is looking for a grassy pasture and a comfy stall. She has been Coggins tested. Sealed bids beginning at $200 are being accepted through noon on Feb. 1 at the shelter located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
