School Crime Report for Jan. 18, 2013

The Newton County Sheriff's Office provides School Resource Officers to each high school and middle school in Newton County. The following is a list of reports filed by these officers that have been received this week by the Newton Citizen:

ALCOVY HIGH SCHOOL

A Newton County Sheriff's Office deputy reported he was called to Alcovy High School on Jan. 16 after a man reported that someone had kicked the driver's side door of his vehicle. The deputy confirmed there was a large dent in the door about the size of a foot.

NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL

-- A student reported on Jan. 15 that his cell phone had been stolen while he was at Newton High School on Dec. 18.

-- A former Newton High student was served a criminal trespass warning on Jan. 9, after he came to the school after being suspended pending a formal hearing. The principal stated he did not want him coming to the school before the hearing.

CLEMENTS MIDDLE SCHOOL

A school resource officer at Clements Middle School met with the assistant principal in her office regarding a disorderly student who used obscene language.

LIVE OAK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

A Newton County Sheriff's Office deputy was dispatched to Newton Medical Center on Jan. 15 around 3:50 p.m. in reference to a simple assault that occurred at Live Oak Elementary between 11:30 and noon that same day. According to the Newton County School System, two second grade students got in a fight in the gym and one of them ended up hitting his head on the gym floor. His grandmother came to the school and picked him up and his mother took him to the hospital and was told he had a concussion. Both students were disciplined by the school for the fight.

PORTERDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

On Jan. 12, a deputy went to Porterdale Elementary School after an alarm sounded and found an open window. There was no sign of forced entry and the window screen was in place. No signs of forced entry were noted anywhere in the school.

ROCKY PLAINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

A student was removed from class by a school resource officer on Jan. 11 after he was disruptive in class. He was charged with disruption of a public school and disorderly conduct. He was released to his guardian.
