West Newton Elementary School wrapped up its Black History Month festivities this week with a shoebox float parade. Pictured is fourth-grader Emerson Greenridge, showing off his float on Bill Cosby. Greenridge said he likes Cosby so much because he found a way to make the world a better place through his comedy, without profanity, negativity and racism. Greenridge said he would like to grow up like him. Students from the whole school came out in the hallways at 1 p.m. Tuesday as the fourth-graders paraded around showing off their floats, which presented their historical research of African-American contributions. The school also held a student wax museum, an author visit, folk tale readings and field trips this month.
