CONYERS -- The Salem baseball team stayed perfect Monday. Reed Hill and Zach Bailey drove in three runs each and three pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Seminoles defeated Drew 10-3 in nonregion play.
Salem stayed unbeaten at 3-0 as its offense keeps rolling in the early stages of the season. In the three wins, the Seminoles have outscored their opponents 41-9.
"We faced a good pitcher tonight and (had) a very good approach at the plate," Salem coach Chad Kitchens said afterwards. "I was very pleased with the resiliency of this team. We were coming off a three-day break, it was very cold, and we were facing a good team."
While Bailey, a Gordon College signee, Hill and Jordan Scott (three hits, 2 RBIs) did most of the damage at the plate, pitcher Adam Hood had a strong start -- 3 innings pitched, three hits, no earned runs -- then gave way to Jason Howell and Josh Webster, who combined for 3 innings of two-hit relief.
Salem travels to county rival Rockdale today at 5:30 p.m.
"We are off to a good start, but we have to continue to do the things that got us to this point," Kitchens said. "We have to rededicate ourselves every day and continue to have the right approach."
