COVINGTON -- A fire in the 9000 block of Washington Street Saturday afternoon around 3:30 destroyed a detached garage and a vehicle, as well as causing minimal damage to the home, according to Capt. Tony Smith of the Covington Fire Department.
"The detached building was a total loss and a Lexus in the garage was destroyed," Smith said. "The cause of the fire is still under investigation."
Also, on Tuesday morning around 10:30 a.m. a resident of a home at 5176 Newton Drive, near the intersection of Adams Street, lit a cigarette from a kitchen stove and forgot to turn off the stove, causing a small fire, Smith said.
"There was very minimal damage to the kitchen area, the stove, the wall and ceiling above the stove," he said.
