COVINGTON -- Most people run for health, but the Relay for Life Committee of Newton County is offering the chance to run for hope.
The 5th Annual Run for Hope, a fundraiser for Relay for Life, is set for Sunday, March 3. A 1-mile fun run gets under way at 2:30 p.m., followed by the 5K run/walk at 3 p.m. The route starts and ends at Cousins Middle School, located at 8187 Carlton Trail Northwest and runs mostly through the city of Oxford.
Last year's race had 175 participants and raised more than $4,000, said organizer Beth Bradley. "Any relay team having members race will receive credit for the monies they raise," she said.
Everyone, not just Relay teams, is welcome to participate in the Run for Hope, including children, she said.
Early registration by mail runs through Monday and is $20. Race day registration is $25. Registration begins at 1 p.m the day of the race. All participants will receive a T-shirt, drinks and snacks.
Awards will be given to the overall top male and female finisher and to the top finishers in age categories.
Registration can be done online at ACTIVE.com.
The Newton County Relay for Life takes place April 26 at The Church at Covington.
