OXFORD -- The Oxford Lions are still flipping after all these years!

According to charter members John Burson and Carlos Meyer, the Oxford Lions Club has been hosting their annual pancake supper for more than 50 years. In fact, they call it Oxford's social event of the year. This year's event will be Friday, March 1, from 5-8 p.m. at Flint Hill Elementary School.

For many years the supper was held at Palmer Stone School and last year was the first one at the new Flint Hill Elementary School. The Oxford Lions are Partners in Education with the school and assist with school projects. At the end of each school year the Lions provide a bicycle to a boy and girl from the third, fourth and fifth grades who the teachers have selected as the most improved students.

Proceeds from the supper are used for service projects supported by the Oxford Lions Club. In addition to Flint Hill School, the Lions support youth in many areas including sponsoring a Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, Venture Crew and American Heritage Girls.

Also, sight preservation remains a primary focus of the Lions who provide glasses to those in need and support the Lions Lighthouse and the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind.

The Oxford Lions have supported their community since being chartered in 1951. For the past eight years they have co-sponsored the Fourth of July Parade and Celebration with the City of Oxford.

The Oxford Lions invite the community to support them by coming to the pancake supper and enjoying all-you-can-eat plain or blueberry pancakes and Holifield sausages.

Adult tickets are $5 and child tickets are $3. Tickets may be purchased from any Oxford Lion or at the door.
