COVINGTON -- A crash involving a vehicle that was speeding on Ga. Highway 36 south of Covington on Thursday night resulted in two deaths and two injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said a trooper entered Ga. Highway 36 from a parking lot at about 9:35 p.m. and observed a Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles on double yellow lines.
"As the vehicle continued toward Covington, the trooper activated his lights and siren to try and stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop," Wright said. "Near Cedar Creek Drive, the Honda driver lost control while passing a vehicle, began rotating and traveled broadside into the oncoming travel lane. There the Honda was hit in the side by a Honda Pilot."
The driver and passenger of the Honda Accord were killed in the crash. They were Donald Justin Barnes, 27, and passenger Kimberly Nicole Anglin, 30, both of Covington.
The driver and passenger of the Honda Pilot, a 17-year-old male and a 18-year-old female, were transported by ambulance for treatment.
"There was no contact between the patrol car and any other vehicle," Wright said.
