Woman ejected from vehicle in rush hour traffic

A Newton County woman who was ejected from an overturned vehicle on I-20 Monday morning is put into an air ambulance by emergency medical personnel to be transported to Atlanta Medical Center. The woman received serious injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Rush hour traffic was snarled for well over an hour Monday morning following a one-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Salem Road. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 27-year-old Newton County woman was traveling east in the center lane when she suddenly steered left and hit the median wall. After hitting the wall, her vehicle began to overturn, ejecting her onto the roadway, according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright, who added that it was unknown why the woman hit the wall. He said the woman was not wearing a seatbelt. She was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries. No other vehicles were involved. - Staff photos by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith
