Students head back, the rest of the school year

CONYERS — After having more than two weeks off from school, Rockdale and Newton County students will return to the classroom on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Teachers and staff will head back to schools on Monday, one day before students arrive.

Although it may seem like a stretch until the last day of school in May, Rockdale County students have only 17 weeks of classes left, while Newton County has 18 weeks remaining until the last day on May 23.

Both school systems are due for a day off on Jan. 20 to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as well as a winter break in February. Rockdale students will enjoy a full week off from school during the week of Feb. 17 to 21, and Newton students will get three days off from Feb. 19 to 21.

A teacher work day on March 14 will result in Rockdale students having another day off.

For spring break, both Rockdale and Newton school systems will have students and teachers take April 7 to 11 off from school.

After this final short hiatus, Rockdale County students will attend their last day of the school year on Friday, May 16. Newton students will be released on the following Friday, May 23, marking the end of the 2013-14 school year.
