Residents prepare for the typical collard green and black-eyed peas meal for New Year's Day.

Vera Freeman stopped by Ramsey’s Produce in Covington Monday morning to pick out a just the right bundle of collard greens for her traditional New Year’s Day meal of collard greens and black-eyed peas. But Vera, a Covington resident, isn’t stopping at traditionals; she will also be having barbecue chicken, baked ham and many other fixings. Freeman has been a frequent visitor of the produce stand for the past three years, which includes her typical purchase of the three perfect Golden Delicious apples. Ramsey Produce has been in existence for nine years and is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Staff Photo: Julie Wells)
