Celebrate the new year close to home

CONYERS — Looking for a way to celebrate the start of 2014 close to home? Several area restaurants and bars are offering special events and packages on New Year’s Eve.

• Celtic Tavern, 918 Commercial St., Conyers:

A spokeswoman at the Celtic Tavern in Olde Town Conyers said New Year’s revelers can take part in karaoke starting around 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Patrons will be treated to party favors and other giveaways.

A breakfast buffet will be offered about 12:30 a.m. to welcome in the new year.

• Whistle Post Tavern, 935 Railroad St., Conyers:

Manager Linda Moulton said the Whistle Post will feature a DJ, complete with a light and laser show, for New Year’s Eve, in addition to dancing and a champagne toast at midnight. There is no cover charge for the entertainment.

Two special dinners will be added to the regular menu, Moulton said — prime rib and crab-stuffed flounder. Patrons are also welcome to order from the regular menu, she said.

Moulton said reservations for dinner are recommended at 770-785-5008. She said dinner will be served starting at 6 p.m. and the kitchen will remain open until 11 p.m.

• Five O’Clock Somewhere, 7189 Turner Lake Road, Covington:

For those 21 years and older, Five O’Clock Somewhere will be celebrating the New Year with the Gannon Adams Band, beginning at 9 p.m. The cost to get in is $15 for advance tickets, which include the cover charge, a breakfast buffet, champagne toast and party favors. Tickets at the door are $20 per person.

• 3rd Base Sports Grill & Bar, 2174 Salem Road SE, Conyers:

3rd Base manager Amy Sudduth said patrons will ring in 2014 with a champagne toast at midnight. Those attending that night can also expect karaoke performances and rounds of Texas hold ‘em poker.

Food and drink specials like barbeque wings and $3 lemon drops will be available during the annual celebration that 3rd Base has hosted for the past seven years.

• Club 908, 908 Commercial St., Conyers:

From 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., Club 908 will welcome the new year with a live performance featuring the band Harvey Scales & Jessie from Las Vegas, as well as music played by DJ Hype from Atlanta. Club admission is $48 for singles and $90 for couples.

Manager Kip Stewart said that admission fees include an appetizer, a bottle of champagne and access to quality food catered by Chef Cary’s Cuisine. The catering includes bistro and breakfast favorites such as a tenderloin carving station, shrimp and grits, collard greens, black eye peas, scrambled eggs, biscuits and jelly, pinwheel sandwiches and much more.

Club 908 attendees will also have the opportunity to dance and take advantage of drink specials, including $3 margaritas and $2 shots. The Atlanta Peach Drop will be broadcast on the club’s big screen. Dress code for the event is considered “dress to impress/casual,” meaning no tennis shoes allowed.
