“Are you tired of the Chamber of Commerce and east Newton politicians putting the overwhelming burden on the citizens of west Newton in their 2050 plan? Are you tired of our traffic issues not being addressed? How about the city of West Newton and take back our community. Write Pam Dickerson and say now is the time for the city of West Newton.”

——

“I am of the opinion like those who fault NCSS and the BOE for bad graduation numbers. Thirty percent of Newton students do not graduate and almost 40 percent at Newton High. The NCSS edits the truth and hides facts and is fundamentally dishonest in that press release. Disturbing that we pay for public schools and the little we know of their inner workings is released to the press by spinners in chopped-up logic.”

——

“Why is the Rockdale Poll posted and the Newton one is always last?”

——

“Before the Christmas break I was able to attend a little Christmas party with my child at their school. I was really amazed at the good work our teachers are doing. These teachers have to be energetic, spontaneous and entertaining all while teaching also. I was exhausted just watching them, and I was only there for an hour! Hats off to our Newton County teachers.”

——

“Newton County school board members are elected by the people to do public work for the people. If the best they can do is be unavailable by press time or decline to comment or have nothing to add, then recall them. Shameful illegal meetings year after year and no one wants to comment. Outrageous! SACS are you paying attention? AdvancED where are you?”

——

“I find it interesting that Eddie Johnson reads the Citizen Poll but has no ideas about how to fix the horrible dropout rate at Newton High? At least we now know we can send messages to him at the poll. So Eddie Johnson, explain your opposition votes made in public against Ms. Fuhrey. Explain your attack on fellow board members. Why also did the board chair fail to rule you out of order?”

——

“I know there have been many complaints to the attorney general about the Newton BOE. Why does this board and the chair allow people to abuse law and policy and procedure over and over again? Sounds like a good case for legal action. At the least the BOE should censure a board member who continues to operate outside the boundaries of the Open Meetings Act and BOE policy. How long will this go on before SACS steps in? Also, why so much silence from the people we elect to speak to us about what is going on in our schools? No one comments, no one has anything to add. How can reporters report news if these shenanigans are taking place and no one will explain themselves? There are lots of comments on Facebook and Twitter and in the general town commentary about this board violating policy over and over again. No wonder we have failing graduation rates; the school board cannot even follow policy and law, and when they appear not to, can’t explain themselves. Lie detector tests? Did I really read that right? How about taking a lie detector test to tell us if you plan to comply with Open Meetings Act or if you have done so, and if you fail the test, you resign from the BOE.”

——

“I have an excellent idea for the Newton County Board of Miseducation. Instead of attacking your colleagues in open meetings that apparently were supposed to be closed meetings but became open but were apparently hidden away, so I am told, in a room away from the public with a majority of the board present — dang, the law matters to none ya — how about instead of doing that and crying and whining about news polls, (which by the way seem 100 percent true to me from my research) and freaking out over Facebook posts about your bad test scores and grad rates. How about this? How about you shut up your whining and stop your attacks and ask yourselves if anything people in the public are saying has any truth to it? Huh? Have you thought about that? If there is some truth to your system’s bad performance, then how about openly discussing what you plan to put in place so the students can improve? I also want to know why the board chair did not rule Johnson out of order when he launched the lie detector assault on the BOE? Is it just totally out of control?”

——

“Why does it seem like Eddie Johnson is always attacking a fellow board member? Is there not a censure to handle this man or maybe a lawsuit will stop this. I have read about these attacks for two years now. How can the system focus on students when this board member acts like this?”

“I was calling about Phil Robertson’s situation. I think it’s pathetic. According to the Bible and the Constitution, he is right. So why did he lose his job? Is it a politically correct thing?”
