COVINGTON — The Chambers of Commerce in Rockdale and Newton counties will continue their traditions of hosting annual meetings at the start of the new year.
The Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce will host its 60th Annual Meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Carriage Room at the Georgia International Horse Park.
In addition to passing the gavel to a new president, several awards will be given, including the A.R. “Gus” Barksdale Lifetime Achievement Award. The most prestigious award in Rockdale County, the Lifetime Achievement Award, has been presented annually since 1987 to an individual or group that has positively impacted the community in an ongoing basis.
Other awards to be presented by the Chamber are the Education Partner of the Year Award, the Community Spirit Award, and the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year Award.

The Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce will recognize one of Newton’s most outstanding citizens with the presentation of the R.O. Arnold Award at its Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner set for Thursday, Jan. 16.
The event will be held at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center, 563 Elliott Trail in Mansfield. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.
The R.O. Arnold Award is considered to be the most prestigious honor a Newton County resident can receive. It recognizes a lifetime of community involvement and achievement.
Other awards to be presented at the Annual Meeting are the Dick James Small Business of the Year Award and the Spirit of Excellence Award, which recognizes a Chamber volunteer for outstanding contributions.
