Conyers police nab three teens in cell phone robberies

CONYERS — Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the theft of a cell phone from a customer at Walmart, as well as the theft of another cell phone from a nearby apartment building.

Just after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, officers responded to Walmart when a man reported a forceful robbery of his cell phone. The victim told officers he was about to enter Walmart when he crossed paths with three males, according to the Conyers Police Department.

One of the suspects, later identified as 18-year-old Jermaine Lamont McLemore of 155 Saddle Lane in Covington, shoved the victim and demanded his cell phone, the CPD reported in a press release. The victim was pushed into a second suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile described as having dyed blond hair, who also assaulted the victim, police said. McLemore punched the victim in the head and fled with the victim’s cell phone and the other two suspects, the CPD stated.

Later that night, police responded to a report of a theft at Century Lakeside apartments located on Peaks Landing.

The victim there said a teenager who was known to the family was allowed in the apartment, where he then stole a cell phone. The suspect was described as a young male with dyed blond hair.

Through interviews, investigators were able to determine McLemore and 18-year-old Aquele Crawelle of 6136 Clane Drive in Covington, were the other two suspects with the juvenile.

Authorities believe the three males went to the movies that night and then left the movie theater to purchase snacks at Walmart where McLemore and the juvenile committed the robbery. Crawelle was also found in possession of the cell phone stolen from the Century Lakeside apartment, the CPD stated.
