While I was jammin’ out to some Christmas songs the other day, it occurred to me that Christmas really is just around the corner.
It seems as though we wait — OK, I wait — all year for Christmas to come back around, and this year it seems to have snuck up on me. That just means I need to step up the Christmas spirit a bit, huh?
I remember this time last year looking at my then 10-month-old little girl’s face as she slept and thinking she looked like a little angel. The song “Mary, Did You Know?” popped in my head.
While gazing at Joy, and wondering what all the Lord has planned for her life, I recalled my favorite verse to the song: “Mary, did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation? Mary, did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations? Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb? This sleeping child you’re holding is the great ‘I am.’”
For most, when we think about Jesus, the image of Him hanging on the cross might be the first one that pops in our heads. But with the celebration of His birth upon us, I urge you to think about Him as a little baby.
It is so easy to think about how mighty and powerful He is, because He is. But when you stop and think about how He was sent here just like the rest of us, it really makes you feel incredibly humble.
God could have chosen to send Jesus any way He wanted too, but I think for us to really understand love and grace, God knew that Jesus would need to be sent to Earth as a baby.
That little baby, who was born not in a hospital, or a warm cozy house, but in a barn with the rest of the animals, came to be Lord of all, and Heaven’s perfect lamb — and most importantly, your Savior.
