Davis Foster had never swam in the 100-butterfly before last Thursday. Foster not only won the event by more than 17 seconds, but his time of 56.60 was good enough to qualify for the state meet.
“First time he’s ever swam it in a meet, that is unheard of,” said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing, whose team won the four-team event 496-326 over county rival Heritage.
Foster, who also won the 200-freestyle in 1:56.88, wasn’t alone in securing individual titles for the Bulldogs. Dax Willette won titles in both the 200-individual medley in 2:27.56 and 100-backstroke (1:09.09) and KeMaya Tucker won the 100-butterfly (1:10.630 and the 100-freestyle (1:01.39); while Matthew Bennett was champion in the 50-freestyle (23.98) and Trey Hull won the 100-breaststroke (1:23.25).
Rockdale also won relay events in the boy’s 200-medley (1:53.95), 200-freestyle (1:37.40) and 400-freestyle (3:50.23) and the girl’s 200-medley (2:08.99) and 200-freestyle (1:53.75).
