ROLO pretzel delights are the perfect combination of sweet and salty. (Staff Photo: Julie Wells)
Some know today’s featured recipe as ROLO pretzel delights; others know this bite-sized sweet and salty treat as a turtle chew. I only know them as delicious.
I’m not sure how many parties, church functions or family events you’ve got to plan and cook for this Christmas season, but hopefully this recipe will be most helpful.
I think what I like most about this recipe is the versatility of it. There are many different toppings you can add to the top of the pretzel and Rolo candy — pecans, M&M’s, almonds, other pretzels.
I also like that it is different, it is easy to package and even easy to display. Most Christmases I’m slaving in the kitchen making Oreo truffles for folks, but you can’t allow the truffles to stay out of the refrigerator all day. These little treats can stay out.
And if you are making cookies and cupcakes, you can’t stack those on top of one another, but you can the Rolo delights.
If you elect to switch out the pecan halves, because pecans can be pricey, and use red M&M’s instead, you can call these sweet treats Rudolph noses. The kiddos are sure to love them just because of the name.
Whatever you call them, and whatever you choose to top the pretzel and Rolo candy with, they are sure to please most anyone.
So, grab the family, get the kids unrolling the candy wrappers, turn on some Christmas music and have some great family time in the kitchen.
Rolo pretzel delights
One bag of small pretzels, the square ones (Snyder’s Butter Snaps)
One package of pecan halves
One bag of Rolo Chewy Caramels in Milk Chocolate
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil.
Place amounts of pretzels on prepared cookie sheet.
Top each pretzel with one Rolo.
Bake 3 to 5 minutes or until the Rolo begins to soften, but not melt.
Remove from oven and top with pecan half or additional pretzel.
Allow the Rolo pretzels to completely cool. (It is very important to allow them to cool or they will not set properly.)
Tip: Be sure to allow plenty of time for unwrapping all the individual Rolo candies.
