Rockdale rolls to victory in swim meet

The Rockdale swim team dominated a regular season meet last week, defeating second-place Eastside 454-240.

The Rockdale girls had six individual championships in a 238-144 victory over runner-up George Walton Academy. The Bulldogs’ 200-medley relay team (Jasheil Chupuico, Billye Lewis, KeMaya Tucker and Sydney Norton) won in 2:07.84, the same quartet won the 200-freestyle relay in 1:53.27, and the quartet of Natalie Smith, Abby Bradford, Kelly Masters and Eboni Davis were first in the 400-freestyle relay (5:05.87).

Tucker won the 100-butterfly in 1:09.53 and 100-freestyle (1:01.69), while Abby Miller was champion in the 100-breaststroke (1:28.79). Rockdale also got runner-up finishes from Norton in the 200-freestyle at 2:36.34 and 500-freestyle (7:03.68); Lewis in both the 50-freestyle (28.83) and 100-freestyle (1:03.27), and Jasheil Chupuico, who was second in the 100-backstroke (1:13.72).

The Rockdale boys nipped Eastside 216-200, thanks to Davis Foster, who won the 50-freestyle in 22.99 and 100-freestyle in 51.19, and the title-winning 200-freestyle relay team of Foster, Matthew Bennett, Damani Young, Will Hardy, who swam in 1:37.93. The Bulldogs also got runner-up performances from Young in the 200-freestyle (2:12.34), Willette in the 500-freestyle (6:20.83), the 200-medley relay team of Foster, Young, Bennett and Hardy (1:50.56) and the 400-freestyle relay team of Willette, Marty Murphy, Quenten Hammond and Patrick Sanders (4:23.13).

Eastside’s Jack Mitchell was a two-time champion (100-butterfly in 57.28 and 100-backstroke in 58.00); Samuel Stewart won the 500-freestyle in 5:49.02 and was second in the 100-breaststroke (1:09.48) and Dylan Weathersby was runner-up in the 200-individual medley at 2:27.45. The Eagles’ 200-medley relay team (Samuel, Weathersby, Jack Mitchell and Matt Mitchell won in 1:50.48, while that same quartet also took home the crown in the 400-freestyle relay (4:02.57).

Salem picked up 27 points in the girl’s competition and the Seminoles as a team finished fifth.
