Alcovy grapplers win Warhawk Duals

COVINGTON — Alcovy’s wrestling team continued show that they’re the team to beat after winning the Warhawk Duals at Veterans High School in Kathleen on Saturday.

The Tigers improved their overall record to 16-2 including the four win in the Warhawk Duals. The Tigers had eight wrestlers go undefeated in the duals.

Winning all four of their matches were Darryl Nichols (106-pound weight division), Jonathan Carlson (126), Jake Hendricks (138), Chris Dubois (145), Austin Richardson (160), Parfait Fondseyuf (170), D’Anthony Elder (182) and Karmari Williams (195).

Coming in second place with a duals record of 3-1 was Colquit County followed by Crisp County who came in third.

“We’re happy as a team to come away with first place,” Alcovy head coach Mike Mostek said. “Right now we have a few injuries and we’re just trying to improve as we go getting healthy for the Area 2-AAAAAA Duals. We won it last year and we’re trying to win it again. We’re just working toward that goal.”

The Tigers try to add another trophy on their mantel today at 5 p.m. as they try to repeat as the winner of the Newton Cup against Eastside and Newton.
