Delaney Willette is headed to Atlanta.
Willette will represent the Rockdale Riptides swim team at the Georgia Senior Short Course Championships this weekend at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center this weekend.
She qualified in the 100-backstroke, 200-backstroke and 200-individual medley.
Willette, who is 13-years old but has been swimming competitively since the age of four, will be competing against a number of older swimmers as the senior age group in USA Swimming is defined as 15 years or older.
“Delaney has worked very hard to get to this point,” said Riptides coach Sean Willette. “She started swimming competitively in the summer at four-years old and committed full time to the sport at eight-years old. She has increased her time in the water over the years and now trains six days a week at Johnson Park. She is an excellent all around swimmer as noted by her qualification in the 200 (individual medley).”
The short course championships begin today and run through Sunday. Willette will swim in the 100-backstroke Saturday, then compete in the 200-individual medley and 200-backstroke, which Sean Willette said is her favorite event, Sunday.
