COVINGTON — A Covington man was struck and killed Tuesday when he was standing next to his truck on Interstate 285.
According to the incident report from the Fulton County Police Department, 54-year-old Dwight Moody, known by friends and family as Lanny, had pulled over the tractor-trailer he was driving onto the right emergency lane of I-285 South near the intersection at Cascade Road around 3:30 p.m. He had gotten out of the truck and was standing next to it when he was struck and killed by a 2007 Ford Fusion driven by Benjamin Head, 70, of Jackson.
“Witness statements and physical evidence indicate that (Head’s) vehicle left its lane of travel and entered the emergency lane, striking the pedestrian,” the accident report states.
Head has been cited for homicide by vehicle and failure to maintain lane, the report states.
Moody was a Christian speaker and comedian, and was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Covington.
