CONYERS — The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office will conduct heightened traffic enforcement and traffic safety checkpoints throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend, beginning today.
Deputies will use traffic checkpoints, as well as concentrated traffic enforcement, to ensure drivers are driving safely on Rockdale County’s roads during the holiday weekend, according to the Sheriff’s Office. While DUI enforcement is always a priority, deputies will also be checking for seatbelts, proper child restraints, and other traffic safety issues. Alcohol-related crashes still account for 23 percent of traffic fatalities in Georgia, according to the RCSO, and speed and unbuckled motorists and passengers also account for a significant number of Georgia’s traffic fatalities.
“Concentrated traffic enforcement and traffic safety checkpoints are a couple of the proactive measures the Sheriff’s Office will be utilizing over the Labor Day weekend. We are going to make sure our roadways are safe and that drivers are held accountable for their choices. If you drink and drive, you will go to jail. Speeders and motorists who don’t buckle their seatbelts or properly restrain their children will be cited,” said Sheriff Eric Levett.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging motorists to be mindful of traffic enforcement activities and drive safely throughout the weekend. For more information on Georgia’s child passenger safety laws, visit the website of the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety at gahighwaysafety.org.
