Tyler Austin selected for AFL

Tyler Austin is going to be playing some baseball this fall. Austin was one of three position players from the New York Yankees organization to be selected for the Arizona Fall League, Chad Jennings at yankees.lhblogs.com reported Tuesday.

Austin, a 2010 Heritage graduate now playing for the Yankees Double-A team in Trenton, New Jersey, had been out since mid-July with a wrist injury, but played his first game with one of the Yankees’ Gulf Coast League teams Tuesday. Austin, in his fourth season with the Yankees organization, was hitting .254 (79-for-311) with six home runs and a .344 on-base percentage and had been an Eastern League All Star with Trenton before the injury.

The Arizona Fall League, which consists of six teams - the Glendale Desert Dogs, Peoria Javelinas, Scottsdale Scorpions, Mesa Solar Sox, Salt River Rafters and Surprise Saguaros - begins October 8.
